Domestic partners (people living together but not married to each other) do not have any statutory inheritance rights under German law. Domestic partners who wish to leave assets to each other need to do so by will. Their right to dispose of their assets is subject to the mandatory minimum share of their children or parents (“Pflichtteil”).
